8月5日 Edie SedgwickAnother unproductive weekend, I sit in my futon, watching Factory Girl, a movie about Edie Sedgwick, a girl I knew nothing about before I watched the movie.
Edie was an actress and socialite in 1960s. She became famous in New York as one of Andy Warhol's 'Superstars.' A superstar is something that, as the Bible puts it, while many are called, few are chosen. I believe Edie is one of the few in the kingdom of the elect. Edie dazzled everyone with her beauty, style, glamour and wealth. The movie had a scene about the first time when Andy Warhol met Edie in a party: she was dancing with moves that no one had seen before—so talented and uninhibited. She was not the main event in that party; she was the only event in that party.
What strikes me about Edie is her vulnerability and craving for being loved. She generously gave her love out, but received nothing in return. She was a combination of all the tragic women who came before her. Whether she was taken advantage of and why she was reluctant to be helped, I don't know. She was like a flower that hadn't been taken good care of and blossomed ephemerally. Edie's brother said she knew her life was short from the beginning. She died of drug overdose at 28.
