最近把The Bourne Ultimatum给看完了。The Bourne Trilogy的最后这一部讲述了Bourne的身世。

Jason Bourne原名David Webb，是CIA的一名特工。由一次机缘，David被选进了一个特殊的training program。在这个program中，David经受多重折磨（譬如窒息和剥夺睡眠）之后，忘记了自己的身世（包括姓名、生日），成为了CIA的一个杀人不眨眼的机器——Jason Bourne。

Jason的身世让我想起了巴甫洛夫七八十岁时候的一系列巨牛B的实验。（巴甫洛夫就是那个通过用铃铛让狗在没有食物的情况下流哈喇子从而发现条件反射的炸药奖得主。）

巴甫洛夫由于用狗做实验，于是养了很多狗，并且给每只狗建立了不同的条件反射。后来20世纪20年代的时候，列宁格勒发了一场大水。大水把狗给淹了，不过没淹死。不过大多数狗都经历了Jason Bourne所经历的窒息stress。结果，巴甫洛夫再拿它们做实验的时候，发现很多狗都表现不正常了。譬如，以前喜欢巴甫洛夫的狗现在不喜欢他了。

巴甫洛夫觉得这个现象巨有趣。于是他将整个余生都用于研究狗的mental breakdown了——先让狗breakdown，再reverse狗的breakdown。我就说一下他的大致发现结果吧：

1) 巴甫洛夫可以预测哪个狗更容易breakdown；
2) 难以breakdown的狗也难以还原到其breakdown之前的状态；
3) 所有的狗都可以被breakdown；
4) Mental breakdown的狗必须通过新的stress才能还原到其breakdown之前的状态。

可惜的是，由于巴甫洛夫做这些实验的时候是苏联时期，并且由于这些发现听起来比较残忍，他的实验结果被广泛忽视了。不过这些发现还是被一个给英国情报机构当顾问的心理学家给发扬广大了（http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Sargant）。

When you’re really on your game, you can look at your opponent in the eye, and you know if you’ve got him, and you know if he’s got you.

It doesn’t matter how good you are. Everything can change when those cards are in the air.

We don’t stop playing because we get old.

We get old because we stop playing.
